About the Film
The Last Airbender is a 2010 live-action fantasy film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, produced by Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures. Based on the first book of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, the film follows young Avatar Aang as he awakens after a hundred years frozen in ice to find the world at war.
The film stars Noah Ringer as Aang, Nicola Peltz as Katara, Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, and Dev Patel as Prince Zuko. Shot across locations in Greenland, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana, production utilized extensive practical sets alongside digital effects. James Newton Howard composed the score.
Released July 1, 2010, the film grossed over $319 million worldwide against a $150 million budget. Despite its financial performance, it received widespread criticism and is widely regarded as a disappointment compared to the source material. A sequel was never produced.
